Mary Ione “Barny” Nielsen, 97, a resident of Crestview Acres, Marion, formerly of Central City, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 10, 2003, at the care center following a short illness.Services: 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, at Jordan’s Grove Baptist Church, rural Central City, by the Rev. Stephen Russell. Burial: Jordan’s Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13. Survivors include two sons, George H. Nielsen and Ray A. Nielsen and wife Frances of Central City; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marten; four sisters; three brothers; and a great-granddaughter, Rebecca. Mary Ione was born the daughter of Willis R. and Myrtle I. Andrews Goodlove in Linn County on January 4, 1906. She was married to Marten A. Nielsen in Marion on October 3, 1928. He died April 10, 1967. For years, Mary Ione and her husband farmed in Alburnett and Central City. They later operated a livestock-buying operation in Central City. Later she was a caregiver in many homes.
