John was the son in law of William and Margaret Swett who were the founders of Beverly Industrial School for the Deaf in Beverly ,Ma. ( see memorial #88159039 ) Buried with John is his wife Persis (Swett ) Bowden . John and Persis were both deaf. In 1892 John , while riding in his horse and wagon was killed by a train. Persis was born in 1852 and died in 1918.

John's mother was Rebecca ( Goodwin ) Bowden,also born in Marblehead in 1823 and died in 1891 .
