Doris Ellen Flanagan, 96, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. A Visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 from 10:00-11:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Graveside Service following at Haven Cemetery in rural Tama.
Doris was born on July 7, 1922, at home in Chester Township in Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Lois Ethel (Sears) Thompson. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1939.
On May 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to Owen "Tub" Flanagan in Grinnell, Iowa. Doris was a homemaker and worked part time sorting corn at Pioneer Hi-Bred International. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, especially pies and chocolate chip cookies. She also liked jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Doris was a loyal Iowa State Cyclone fan. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and their activities.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice (Tim) Coble of Des Moines and Jody (Mike) Pietz of Ames; two grandchildren, Kacey Pietz of Ames, and Brody Pietz of Los Angeles, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Owen "Tub" on June 18, 2016; two sisters, Helen Stephens, and Mary Lee McCurry; and one brother, Laverne Thompson. A memorial fund has been established.
