Writer Elaine St. Johns, who was the daughter of the late Hollywood personality Adela Rogers St. Johns, died May 11 in Los Angeles of unreported causes. She was 78.
A native of Los Angeles, she began her writing career in the 1940s working as a reporter for the Los Angeles Daily Mirror.
After 10 years with that publication, she authored the short story "My Friend God," which led to a long relationship with Guideposts Magazine. she eventually became the magazine's West Coast editor, a position she held until 1994.
She is survived by a son, George; a daughter, Kristen; a brother, Richard; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in her name to Hotline of San Luis Obispo County, and sent to Lady Family Mortuary, 555 Fair Oaks Ave., Arroyo Grande, CA 93420.
