(Aug 1945) WILLIAM CLARK SCOTT:
Bodies of 4 Crawford Countians, 3 Army men & an Air Force pilot killed in the pacific threater, have been returned aboard the Dalton Victory to the United States for reinterment, according to a war dept announcement. The Dalton docked Thurs at Oakland CA.

They are: Staff Sgt William Scott, husband of Mrs Cornelia Scott. {others listed}
Sgt Scott gave his life defending his position on Leyte 27 Nov 1944 & was post humously awarded a bronze star. The medal was presented to Mrs Scott by Maj Bullock-3rdService Command-Pittsburg. A veteran of 3 major engagements with the Japanese, SgtScott fought at Leyte, the Aleutians & the Marshalls. Before entering service, A well-known dairyman in the Westford area operating a farm with his bro RobertM Scott. He was a member of SShenango United Presbyterian Church.
The citation accompanying the post humous bronze star tributed the infantryman for his "leadership & courageous action which were an inspiration to his men & contributed immeasurbly in the successful defense of the company position".
