Janette W. (Janet) Brown, 90, of Plainville, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on Monday, (March 14, 2011) at Apple Rehab.Janet was born in Hartford on April 6, 1920, the daughter of the late Kendal H. and Thyra (Anderson) Brown. She was raised in Middletown, where she attended local schools, and was a 1938 graduate of Middletown High School. She held a longtime career with the Traveler's Insurance Company, retiring in the mid 1980's after more than thirty years of employment. Janet was a woman of strong faith, attending various local churches close to where she resided, and enjoyed many of her retirement years in West Hartford, where she enjoyed her independence and made many friends. She shared her talents for playing the piano at church, and most recently for the residents at Apple Rehab, and was known for her love of reading books, as well as for her impeccable memory; reciting poetry and sharing stories from her past. She will be remembered for her love for her family, sharing a special bond with all of her nieces and nephews, and her selflessness and giving towards others. She led a full and happy life, leaving her family with many dear memories, and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Apple Rehab, for the compassionate care shown to Janet during her stay there. She is survived by her nieces, Barbara Helmecki of NC; Cheryl Welch of MA; and Marsha Kraft of Plainville; and her nephew, David L. Brown of Plainville; along with many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, David Brown. A graveside service celebration of Janet's life will be held on Saturday, (April 9, 2011) at 11 a.m. at West Cemetery, North Washington St., Plainville.
