Retired Grocer, Dies

George Austin Berry, 88, retired farmer and grocer, died at 5:15 a.m. here today.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Marion Duncan, assisted by the Rev. Owen Herndon. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Berry, of N. O'Neal Ave., had operated groceries in several locations in Hopkinsville and formerly farmed in the Pilot Rock Road area.

He was born in Christian County Nov. 1, 1878, the son of Thomas and Mattie Meacham Berry. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lorene Young; a son, Garland Berry, and a sister, Mrs. Herman Harned, all of the city,! and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Simmie Berry; a son, G. T. Berry, and a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Sholar.

Pallbearers, all grandsons, will be Clayton, Dudley and Austin Young, Jimmy and Billy Berry, and Seth Delaney.
