Memorial services for Dr. Richard P. Campbell, 66, of St. Simons, who died Thursday, were held Sunday, April 5 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home in Cedartown. Dr. Campbell was the son of the late Rufus L. and Ruby Dodson Campbell of Rockmart and was also related to a number of other residents in this area. Harold Ayers, Bill Bruner, the Rev. Hugh Shaw, the Rev. Wayne Benefield and the Rev. Carlton Duke officiated at the services. Dr. Campbell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown, Caledonia Lodge No. 21, Royal Arch Masons and the Cedartown Chamber of Commerce. He was graduated from Emory University and Medical College of Georgia. He was named Physician and Professional Citizen of the Year in 1979. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Campbell, St. Simons; a daughter, Catherine Campbell, New York; a stepdaughter, Janice White, Stanley, Va.; a stepson, Dr. E. Hale Burnside, Chaver, Md.; a brother, Vance D. Campbell, Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Roseanne Baker, Brunswick. (The Rockmart Journal, April 8, 1987)
