Mr. Guy L. Wilkes, 43, 226 Litchfield St., Rockmart, died Monday, April 5, 1999 upon arrival at a Rome Medical Center. He was born on January 11, 1956 in Rockmart, a son of Irene Ratcliff Wilkes and the late James Clifton Wilkes. Mr. Wilkes had lived all his life in Rockmart where he was a member of the Piedmont Avenue Baptist Church. He retired in January of 1990 from the Goodyear Mill due to ill health. He was preceded in death by his father in October 3, 1992. Survivors: wife: Mrs. Deborah W. Wilkes, Rockmart; daughters, Julie Kristi Wilkes, Rockmart; Lisa Robinson, Rockmart; mother, Mrs. Irene Wilkes, Rockmart; two sisters, Mrs. Peggy Ann Walls, Powder Springs and Mrs. Joyce Ellington, Rockmart; one brother, James Edward Wilkes, Aragon; two granddaughters, Abigail Wilkes and Cassidy Robinson. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8 in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Carroll and Rev. John Hooper officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers included: Terry Walls, Raymond Ellington, Earl Smith, Keith Walls, Kenny Thomas and Randy Langston. Honorary pallbearers included: Joey Ellington, Todd Walls and Anthony Robinson. Alvis Miller and Son Funeral was in charge of arrangements. (The Rockmart Journal, April 21, 1999)
