FRANK J. PANOWICZ
Frank J. Panowicz, 80, of 400 Beebe, died at 3 p.m. Monday at Alpena Hospital, where he had been hospitalized since Jan 11. He had been in ill health two years.

Born Nov 12, 1884 in Posen Mich., he had lived in Alpena most of his life. He retired 11 years ago from Wyandotte Chemicals-Corp quarry, where he had worked for 35 years.

He was a veteran of World War1, having served in the Army from 1917 to 1919 with the 25th Infantry, Red Arrow Division. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded Aug 29, 1918 in the Second Battle of the Marine at Soissons. He also fought in the Alsace Sector, Allie Marine offensive and Meuerrgonne offensive.

He was a member of St. Mary Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, who will accord him full Military honors.

Surviving are his wife, the former Martha V. Hayka, whom he married June 14, 1920 at St. Mary Church; a son, John of Petersburg, Mich., two daughters, Mrs. Leonard Wieschowski (Blanche) of Alpena and Mrs.. George Watros (Florence) of Pontiac; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs James Wornick and Mrs. Anthony Mischley, both of Alpena.

Mr. Panowicz's body is at the Karpus Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral will be at 9 Thursday at St. Mary Church. The Very Rev. Raymond Mulka will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Philip J. Kowalski, Henry Lee, Joseph Graves, Stanley Fanslow, Steve Donakowski and Stanley Wieschowski. (With a picture)
