Martin was born in Germany to John and Anna (Schmidt) Morgenweck. He married Adelaide in 1868. In October 1871 he immigrated to the United States with Adelaide and sons Richard and George. They traveled from Breman, Germany to Locust Point, Baltimore aboard the SS Baltimore. He would spend the rest of his life living in Baltimore City. He was the father of 13 children but only 5 survived -- Richard, George, Hank, Bertha and Mary. He was the brother of Henry and Elizabeth. His infant grandson is buried in the plot with him and Adelaide.
