Donald F. Lorom 1935 - 2009 BENNINGTON Donald F. Lorom, 73, of Woodland Drive died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Bennington on June 1, 1935, son of Randolph and Ruth Beagle Lorom, Don received his education in North Bennington and was 1955 graduate of North Bennington High School. Don also served as a Sergeant in the Army Reserve. A master electrician, Don had been employed in earlier years at Warren Wire, Stanley Tools and Eveready Battery Company until his retirement in 1987, when he moved to Harpswell, Maine. While residing in Harpswell, Don worked at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick and at LL Bean. He also worked as a self-employed electrician and carpenter. He was a member of American Legion Post 171 in Harpswell, the Merriconneag Yacht Club, the Green Mountain Autosports Club, Bennington Moose Lodge and the North Bennington High School Alumni Association. A very artistic man, Don enjoyed stained glass making, wood creations, and hunting. He enjoyed gardening, setting up for the Harpswell Festival in Maine, spending time with the Adirondack Club, and helping other people. He leaves his wife of 21 years, Nancy Schulze Andersen of Bennington; two sons, Donald R. Lorom of Southwick, Mass., and Allen R. Lorom of Hawaii; a step-son, William H. Andersen of Turner, Maine; a stepdaughter, Debra C. Andersen of Harpswell; a granddaughter, Cassandra Lorom; two sisters, Claire Lorom Turner of Bennington and Jean Tinney Woodard of Shaftsbury, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was predeceased by a brother, Francis "Bud" Tinney. MEMORIAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of Donald F. Lorom will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Vincent Coppola, c.s.c., officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Donald Lorom's memory may be made to either the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center or the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. .
