Mrs. Charles Harpham Dies At Burwell Hospital
An item in last week's Leader stated that Mrs. Charles Harpham had been seriously ill for a few days and was taken to the Dr. Cram hospital at Burwell, just before noon Thursday, August 1st. There she passed away about 9:30 o'clock Friday, August 2nd. (1940)
The funeral was held at the Sargent Methodist church Sunday afternoon, there being a good sized crowd in attendance. Interment was made in the cemetery at Ord.
Lydia Eva Sidlo (pronounced as if spelled Sheedlo) came into this world December 24, 1889, at Red Cloud and departed this life at the age of 50 years, 7 months and 8 days. Lydia E. grew to womanhood at Red Cloud and received her education in the local schools of Red Cloud.
At the age of fourteen years a tragedy came into her life, her mother took sick and passed to her reward. This left her and her youngest brother, Eddie, at home with their father. The other members of the family were already married and had homes of their own.
On April 13, 1910, she was united in marriage to Charles Harpham also of Red Cloud and they made their home in that vicinity for the next seventeen years. While living there three daughters came into their home, Gladyce, Norma and Stella. Norma is now Mrs. Ralph Mann, who resides on a farm about twenty miles northeast of Sargent. Gladyce and Stella are at their home here in Sargent.
In the year 1927 Mr. and Mrs. Harpham and daughters left Red Cloud and moved to Loup county, where they resided on the Frank Hubbard ranch for twelve years. After residing on the Hubbard ranch twelve years, Mr. and Mrs. Harpham decided to have a vacation and on January 10, 1939, they sold everything at a public sale. They went as far as Sacramento, California and then in March of this year, returned here. They then went to Webster county and spent several weeks visiting relatives and friends. About the middle of May they moved into the house just west from the Christian church that has been her home since.
Mrs. Harpham leaves to mourn her death her beloved husband and three daughters and two brothers and four sisters. Her brothers are Joseph Sidlo of Bladen and Eddie Sidlo of Red Cloud. Her sisters are Mrs. John Hollsworth of Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Albia Portenier of Guide Rock, Mrs. Mary Dusek of Bladen and Mrs. Elizabeth Zitek of Blue Hill. She was preceded in death by her mother and later her father, then a sister, Mrs. Anna Taylor and then a brother, Adolph Sidlo who died a year or so ago.--Sargent Leader.

Mercer of Kearney. They state that words cannot express the thoughtfulness and kindness shown by her numerous old and new friends and neighbors in and around Sargent. Everything was done that was possible for her and her family. This kindness will not be forgot by her family.
