REID, James Paul, of Cameron, W.Va., died December 11, 2010 in Cameron Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born March 4, 1927, the son of the late Frank and Virginia Bonar Reid. He was retired after 37 years with the Department of Highways as a District 6 maintenance superintendent. In 1983 he became executive vice president of Panhandle Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. He was also treasurer, director, and an agent for the Company. From 1989-2002 he was president and CEO of the Panhandle Ins. Company. He continued to remain on the board of directors and in 2009, was given the title "director of emeritus". He was a member of the blue lodge #17, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Bodies, Osiris Shine, OES NO. 86 Moundsville.

Jim's life revolved around family, church, and community. He was a member of the Big Run Christian Church where he served as elder, trustee, and cemetery treasurer.

He was a member of the Marshall County Democrats, serving on many committees and supporting all candidates. He was chosen democrat of the year in 2001. He was so thrilled when Congressman Mollohan came to visit him at the nursing home.

He always valued his friendship. Jim was instrumental in working with the board of education to obtain a lease for Big Run School, that became The Big Run Community Center, and he continued to get funding to operate the center each year. He also worked very hard to make the apple festival a success. He spent much time in developing the day care center in Moundsville and was one of the original board members. He obtained funds for the Cameron Recreation and Park, (Music in the Hills), and headed the building of the stage as you come into Cameron, he was responsible for listing of businesses. Jim's favorite time of the year was Christmas and it showed through his love for his Christmas tree farm. He always gave away more than he sold!

He was always helping someone; whether it be a job, a place to stay, a loan of money, "advice, or a shoulder to lean on. Jim's grandson Billy, always told him, "what you believe has more power than what you dream," or wish or hope for "You become what you believe". His happiness never came from others; what he felt was in direct proportion to the love he gave away.

In addition to his wife Clarice Quigley Reid and his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Reid, his sister Hazel Courtright and her husband Kermit Courtright, his brother-in-law Hubert Clark and Mack Quigley and his grandson Dr. William Cumpston.

Surviving are his wife, June Reid of Virginia, Daughter Sandra (Keith) Cumpston, son James L. (Sherry) Reid, all of Cameron W.v. and a son Dr. Andrew Laney (Edith June) of Clearwater, Fl. Seven grandchildren Clarice Cumpston, Amy Reid, Chelsie Reid, Rena Reid, Jeff Laney, Mike Laney and Andrea Mendez. Three great-grandchildren a sister Evelyn Clark, sister-in-law Annalee Reid, Brother-in-law Donald (Ellen) Quigley, sister-in-law Freda Quigley several nieces and nephews. We would like to thank Cameron Nursing and Rehab, for their love, kindness, support, and compassion during Jim's stay. It is not just a nursing home, it a loving family.
