CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Elise Mitchell Stiles, 85, of Charles Town, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born March 23, 1917, in Colbert County, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Hamie Hamilton Mitchell.

Her husband of 62 years, Robert S. "Bob" Stiles, died Jan. 4, 2000.

She attended Florence (Ala.) State College.

She and her late husband owned and operated Tri-State Homes Inc., and Robelei Estates, Charles Town. Prior to that, she was employed by the U.S. government at the Pentagon.

She was a member of Church of Christ in Charles Town.

She was a member of Jefferson County Taxpayers Association. She assisted with the Blind Veterans Association and was a former member of Stonewall-Rosser United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter 2417 and Leetown United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter 231.

She is survived by three daughters, Alice S. Jensen of Denville, N.J., Barbara A. Kretzer of Sharpsburg, and Dena Stiles of Escondido, Calif.; one brother, Charles R. Mitchell of Alabama; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Everett Adam.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Chaplain Dwayne Casteel will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
