Aberdeen --- Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph J. Schumacher, 80, of Aberdeen will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Father Gregory Tschakert will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
There will be a Liturgical Wake Service 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at the mortuary.
Visitation is 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday all at the mortuary.
Joe passed away, Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, surrounded by his family at Fairview Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
Joseph J. Schumacher was born July 27, 1924, to John and Theresa (Biegler) Schumacher in Rural Edmunds County where he was raised on the family farm North of Craven Corner.
Joseph married Vernetta Preszler Nov. 24, 1948, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich, S.D. They moved to Aberdeen where Joe was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad and the Presentation Sisters. He retired in 1986 and they have continued to make Aberdeen their home.
Joe was a member of the Aberdeen Moose Lodge for many years.
Joe will be remembered by family and friends for his love of carpentry, for his great stories and his gentle kind nature.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, one son Joseph M. Schumacher, four brothers and two sisters.
Casketbearers will be Andrew Pietrus, Michael Schumacher, Jim Schumacher, John Schumacher Jr., Justin Dallmann and Les Wilmot.
Ushers will be Lee Bohling and Louie Jung. Lector will be Jackie Schumacher. Offertory gifts will be presented by Sara Bohling and Ann Schumacher. Eucharistic Minister will be Jerome Lacher. Organist will be Stephanie Raap and Soloist will be Don Harmel.
