HARVEY T. BUTCHER

Harvey T. Butcher, 80, of Bridgeton died late Saturday evening July 2, 2005 at the S.J. Regional Medical Center in Vineland. He had been a hospital patient for the last week and in declining health for the last six years.

The husband of the late Hannah M. Butcher (nee Mason), who died in 1999, he was born in Williamstown and was the son of the late Clarence and Marie Tomlin Butcher. He was also predeceased by his step-mother, Anna Butcher.

A longtime resident of Bridgeton, Mr. Butcher lived at his current address with his son for five and a half years. Before that he lived on Oak Street for over forty years.

Mr. Butcher was a graduate of Bridgeton High School and served in the US Army during World War II. He saw active duty in the European Theater as a tank driver and received a Purple Heart and Bonze Star for injuries he sustained.

For thirty-two years, he was employed by the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Bridgeton.

Mr. Butcher was a member of the St. John's First Evangelical Lutheran Church and Shoemaker Post #95 American Legion. In addition, he had been an avid bowler and bowled in a men's league at Pike Lanes. He also served as an assistant manager with the Local #239 little league team with the late "Pinchy" Rose in the Bridgeton Little League.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane E. Pettit and her husband Ernie of Alloway Twp., one son, Thomas M. Butcher and his wife Kathy of Bridgeton, six grandchildren, Rodney Butcher and his wife Maureen, Ryan Butcher and his wife Fawn, Todd Butcher and his wife Tiffani, Amy Fote, Paula DeRosa and her husband Mike and Aaron Pettit Jr. and his wife Heather, eight great grandchildren, Hailee, Lauren, Alicia, Rebecca, Hannah, Chelsea, Nicole and Kaitlin, one brother, George Butcher of Bridgeton, several nieces and nephews and his caregiver, Barbara Pepitone. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna M. Crammer in 2001, a great grandson, Cortland and sisters, Edna Simkins, Esther Rempfer, and Elizabeth Cossaboon and brothers, Clarence, Bill, Dee and infant brother, Leslie.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning July 7th at 11 o'clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.

The interment will be made at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 and also Thursday morning from 10 until 11.
