BURKE rites

Services for Dorothea BURKE, 95, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Prayers for a Christian Wake will be recited at the Raymond Funeral Home at 7:30 Friday evening.

Mrs. BURKE died at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Parkview Care Center where she had been patient (sic.) for the past two years.

Dorothea A. BURKE was born Feb. 4, 1886, in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of Peter Paul and Katherine (sic. Kathrine) DRISH SHEMANSKI.

She was married to Frank P. BURKE May 19, 1908. They were the first couple to be married in St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield. Her husband preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1965.

Mrs. BURKE maintained the family home at 500 E. Kirkwood until she entered the care center in September, 1979. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include three sons: Robert and Bernard, Fairfield, and Albert, Poloma Heights, Md. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.

Note: There is a "Charles E Burke", b/d 1909, buried beside Peter Paul Shemanski and Kathrine Drish Shemanski in St. Marys Polishville cemetery NE of Fairfield. It would seem that this was the first child of Frank and Dorothea Burke; they were married in 1908, the child born/died in 1909. There are no birth or death records specifically for Charles, but to be buried next to his maternal grandparents (they next to him, in reality) would be a common occurence. If this relationship is not correct, please advise this contributor and the changes will be made accordingly.
