HERRIN - Jack D. Finney, 76, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Finney was a retired Chief Engineer with the Sperry Rail Service in Danbury, Conn., and traveled throughout the world during his employment.

He was a member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy, Herrin's Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 693 and a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was born April 9, 1931, in Ferges, to James Monroe and Lydia (Trout) Finney.

Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Eric and Veronica Finney of Salt Lake City, Utah, Greg Schardein of Stafford, Va., and Brian Schardein of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren, Kadin and Rivers Finney of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, James "Junior" Finney of Carterville; two sisters, Barbara Beasley of Marion and Berle Pepin of Ocala, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene Finney and Max Finney; and three sisters, Mary Young, Elsie Antonini and Pauline Jones.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Jerry Schell will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The body will be cremated. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery at a later date.
