"She was the kind of person who woke up every morning ready to go. She was one of those people who would just smile and keep going. She kept her faith all the way through and everyone who came in contact with her would comment about the strength she had," said her husband, Wilton G. (Scooter) Andrews of Richmond Hill.
Her husband said that for more than a decade, she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, then cancer and a stroke. But through the illnesses and numerous surgeries, she would do whatever she could to help others when called upon.
Andrews said his wife probably was best known by friends and acquaintances through her work in sales at the family-owned Eastern Furniture Mart on Ogeechee Road.
Liz Andrews was a lifelong resident of Richmond Hill. She was a member of the Richmond Hill First Baptist Church and a 1976 graduate of Savannah Christian Academy.
Family members described her as a loving, devoted daughter, wife, grandmother and sister.
Andrews said one of the greatest hurts he and his wife went through was the death of their daughter, Alissa Luke, who died of heart failure at the age of 25 in February of 2005.
W.J. Warnock, hospital chaplain for First Baptist Church for 24 years, said, "I don't know of another person who had the (health) problems she had, but she always looked on the bright side. I think she did that because she knew the Lord. I think people saw this in her ... she was a fine person. She had lots and lots of friends because she was a friend.
"We prayed a lot, laughed a lot and even cried together," Warnock said. "I have to believe very strongly that she is with God today."
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her parents, E.T. (Andy) and Blanche Anderson of Richmond Hill; grandchildren Lakelyn, Caleb, Braelyn Luke; brothers, Craig Anderson (Wanda) and Jason Anderson (Helen) both of Savannah; and several other family members.
Funeral services were Sunday at Richmond Hill First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Joseph officiating. Burial was in Richmond Hill First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel was in charge.
