Mrs. Best was born in Brunswick County on March 18, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Samuel Edward and Martha Elizabeth Evans Hewett. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Best was a cook at many Southport area restaurants also was employed with Roses Department Store of Southport as well as Sunny Point, ADM and Hope Harbor. She was wife of the late Curtis Long.
She is survived by eight children, Tom R. Long and wife Jackie of Newport News, VA, Judy Hinson and husband Lucien of Boiling Spring Lakes, Dee Coleman and husband Ronald of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Pat Sykes and husband Clarence of Southport, Belinda Summers and husband David of Charlotte, Teresa Robine and husband Dave of Leland, Michael Long of Supply, Danny Long of Southport; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and also a very special caregiver, Marie McLamb.
Funeral services will be held Sunday April 15, 2012 at 3:30 pm at the chapel of Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Service with Reverend Anthony Clemmons officiating. A private family interment will follow in Northwood Cemetery.
