His oldest brother, Robert H. BOYKIN: Find A Grave Memorial# 42579512
Russell Register, 2-22-1901; Seale, Alabama, page 3, published weekly by Tucker & Chadwick.
"Died at Auburn
Mr. F. A. Boykin, a well known and highly respected citizen of Auburn, died at his home at that place last Monday. Mr. Boykin was born near Seale about 73 years ago and lived here until 1880, when he moved to Auburn. He has many relatives and friends in this county who will be pained to learn of his death. He is survived by his wife and five children, all of whom have the deepest sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement."
Location of Robert H. BOYKIN's grave: it is the only grave in the horse pasture of Mr. Jack McGee 85 McGee Road, Seale, AL 36875, located off of AL Highway 169, about 6-7 miles due north of Seale, AL. I (David Pope) visited Mr. McGee 9 Jan 2003 and he told me of finding the large headstone, sitting it erect and putting a small fence around it. It has correct dates of birth and death and has a notation "My Husband."
In 1836 Sterling Robert BOYKIN enlisted in Muscogee Co in the First Regiment of the Militia under Col. William Porter for the Indian War of 1836. Other also enlisting were Joel Hunt, Hartwell Bass and James Willis.
According to his wife's obit in the Southern Christian Advocate, they moved to Russell Co, AL in 1836. The first land obtained by Sterling R. Boykin in Russell Co was in 1839. He obtained 320 acres on a federal land patent signed by President Polk in 1847. In the 1850s, the returned value of his land appears to be among the highest in the count.
Sugar Hill, on Big Uchee Creek, 2 mi north of the Federal Rd between Columbus and Montgomery, is associated with the Boykin family.
A Boykin Cemetery is located off I65, NW of Seale, north of Big Uchee Creek.
Appraisers of his estate were J.M. Branne, J.W. Boykin and J.H. Bickerstaff.
(Joel W. Boykin was a son, his daughter, Emma Jean Boykin married Charles Newton Bickerstaff.)
