Elizabeth 'Marie' Deaton, age 90 formerly of Cambridge City, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, IN. She was born February 13, 1919 in Hazard, KY, the daughter of Rev. John W. and Margaret (Baker) Walker.

Marie and husband Chester lived most of her lives in Dublin, IN moving to Cambridge City upon their retirement. Along with her husband, they owned and operated Deaton's Grocery in Dublin for 13 years and they moved to a farm they bought while operating the grocery. She was a member of Second Creek Baptist Church in Hazard, KY. She loved flowers, gardening, garage sales and decorating her home.

Survivors include four children: Ronnie (Wilberta Engle) Deaton of Columbus, IN, Donna Deaton (Ralph) Watson of Dublin, Jimmy (Jan Russell) Deaton of Dublin and Sandra Sue Deaton, and (Jim) Price of Powell, TN; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Marie was the last surviving member of the pioneering family of Dr. Roderick R. Baker and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Baker of Hazard, Ky she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Deaton, in 2002; and five brothers, French, Asbel, Frank, Johnny and Sherman Walker and an infant sister, Marguerite.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with Chaplain Maureen McCarthy officiating. Friends may call at the chapel on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. Private burial services will be in South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 9135 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46209-7109.
