Lloyd E. Cole, 79, of Waynesburg, died at 12:34 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.

He was born Monday, March 13, 1933, in Spraggs, son of the late Carl L. and Martha Kane Strawn Cole.

Mr. Cole was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesburg but had been attending First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg.

He was a sports enthusiast and an avid reader. He enjoyed working with flowers, gardening and hunting and was an accomplished marksman.

Mr. Cole worked for 10 years for Consol at the prep plant while getting his schooling. He then began his teaching career with Central Greene School District, teaching both science and social studies. He also worked as a part-time guidance counselor. He later became a full-time guidance counselor, until his retirement in 2000. Following his retirement, with his wife, he volunteered with the Carnegie Museum teaching program at several elementary schools.

On June 26, 1976, he married Suzanne Brungart, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Cole of Waynesburg and Maia Cole of Nashville, Tenn.; a son and wife, Scott (Tobie) Cole of Waynesburg; a granddaughter, Katie (Scott) McCoy; two great-grandchildren, Sydney Mayle and Woody Bedilion; a sister, Ruth Wisecarver of Henderson, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a granddaughter, Lori Bedilion, and a brother, Paul Cole.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, April 14, in First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William Sukolsky officiating.
