Bill Knight

Bill Knight, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Bill led a simple and virtuous life. It started when he was born in Anselmo in 1926 to William and Anna Knight. He was the youngest of their three sons, including Harold and Harry. His father, William Knight died when Bill was 5 years old. His mother was remarried to George Showalter in 1936. After graduating from Anselmo High School he joined the Army and served for two years during World War II, achieving the rank of Sergeant. When the war ended he attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska majoring in business. After graduating he worked a number of jobs. Bill joined his brother Harry in business where they were co-owners of Knight Plumbing Company from 1957 until he retired in 1990.

He had a great love for family and friends. His sense of humor was infectious. He was a loving husband and father. He shared his faith with others through his many years of volunteer service. He was recognized in 2008 by Catholic Social Services of Lincoln with the Cor Christi Award for outstanding volunteer efforts in starting and operating the organization's Food Pantry, helping to feed needy families in Lincoln. Along with his wife he enjoyed traveling and visited such places as Mexico, Russia, the Holy Land, Ireland, South America, Alaska and New Zealand.

Survivors: Virginia, Bill's wife of 63 years; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Carrie Knight, Lincoln; daughter, Carol, Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Scott Cather, Lincoln; daughter, Mary Knight, Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Preceded in death: son, David, 2008; brother, Harold, 2005.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday 10 a.m. St. Teresa's Catholic Church, 36th and Randolph. Rosary: Sunday 6 p.m. Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home 4040 A Street. Burial: Lincoln Memorial Park.
