Bert O. DeLong was born in 1880 and married in 1936(sic 1903). He married Sarah Cline. They moved to Washington Township, Hendricks County, in 1913.

Bert was the son of Albert and Francis Hornaday DeLong, who lived near Zionsville. Sarah DeLong was the daughter of Hiram and Mary Ottinger Cline of Whitestown. Bert and Sarah DeLong, or "Sadie," as she was known by her friends, were parents of six children: Harold, 1905-1975; Edgar, 1908; Marion 1912-1971; Martha, 1921; and two, a son and daughter, who died in infancy.

Bert was in the house-moving business with his father before settling in Hendricks County, where he engaged in general farming with his two younger sons until his death.

Bert and Sadie were members of the Wesley Methodist Church and were among the first members of the Hendricks County Farm Bureau.
