Ramon Berenger of Barcelona

Count of Barcelona and Provence, Girona and Ausona, as well as Besalu.

He was the son of Ramon Berenguer II and Matilda Guiscard,and the grandson of Ramon I and Almodis de La Marche.

Ramon was the husband of Maria Rodriguez, the second daughter of El Cid. They had two children:
* Maria, wife of Bernat III, Count of Besalu
* Jimena, wife of Roger III, Count of Foix

Secondly, her married an Almodis, but had no issue

Thirdly, he married Douce of Provence, the heir of Provence, giving him the right to Provence, France. They had five children:
* Almodis, wife of Ponce de Cervera
* Berenguela, wife of Alfonso VII, King of Leon & Castile
* Ramon Berenguer IV, Count of Barcelona
* Berenguer Ramon I, Count of Provence
* Bernat, who died young

Ramon became the sole ruler of Barcelona when his father was forced into exile in 1097. Before he died he became a Knight of the Templar. Upon his death, his territories in Spain went to his eldest son, Raymond IV Berengar, and Provence was given to the youngest son, Berengar Raymond.
