Dennis was the son of George Sylvester & Mary Anne Bryerton of Whiting, IN, where he spent his youth. He died while at home with his family in Penn Valley, CA, the morning of May 21, 2004 after a return bout with cancer. He graduated from Indiana Univ. with a degree in business and later attained his master's in Human Resources Management from the Univ. of Redlands, CA. He moved to Orange County, CA in the mid-1960's where he pursued his lifelong interest in a law enforcement career. In his 34 years of law enforcement work, 28 years were with the Fullerton, CA Police Dept., where he retired in 1993 as a police lieutenant. The last six years of his career were spent with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office as a part-time investigator. He was a proud member of the Nevada City Elks Lodge and a regular member of a monthly poker group. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Bryerton; his twin sister, Marilyn (Bill) Fortin, of Indiana; brother, George (Evelyn) Bryerton, Indiana; as well as numersous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, in 1971, and his mother, in 2003. Cremation was handled by the Chapel of the Angels in Grass Valley, CA. At his wishes, there will be no services.
