"David W. Morse, an aged and life-long resident of New Lisbon, was found dead in his garden, Wednesday night, where he had been working that afternoon. Failing to return to the house at night, his brother, Merlin, and sister-in-law, Cora Morse, began searching for him. Mrs. Morse went into the garden and there she found his lifeless form lying on the ground. Death apparently came very suddenly as there was no indication of any struggle. Deceased was born near the place where he died, a son of Rensselaer and Amy Morse. He was never married and for many years resided with the brother at whose home he died. He was eighty-two years of age, a kind friend and neighbor. One other brother, Stephen Morse, survives him. The funeral was held at the house, Saturday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock, the Rev. E. E. Hutchingson of Morris officiating. Interment in Hillington cemetery at Morris." [The Otsego Farmer & Republican (Cooperstown, NY), May 21, 1920, p. 7]
