Frederick Behlendorff enlisted in the 13th Illinois Cavalry as a Sgt.Major on Sept.28,1861.He was promoted to 2nd Lieut.in Jan.1862 and 1st Lieut. a month later.In Nov.1862 he was promoted to Captain of Co.A and on April 11,1864,he was commissioned a full Major.On Jan.1,1865,he was discharged from service.He was the author of "The History of the Thirteenth Illinois Cavalry Regiment"and a member of the GAR Post 5 (Custer)in Grand Rapids.
