Speculation regarding his origin and relatives:

Quite possibly related to the Applebys of Durham, New Hampshire.

The 1732 New Hampshire Census lists a Thomas Appelby of New Castle and a Mr. Applebee of Newington.

A query in the NEHGS Nexus 2:18, Feb1985 ("Queries-Applebee/Morell") suggests Hawley resided in Somersworth previously to Berwick, and may have been the son of William of Portsmouth, Newington, and Dover or the son of Thomas of New Castle, and Rye, New Hampshire. It is also suggested that the two latter may have been from Virginia. No sources for this information are provided.

His son, Simeon has memorial #83463861.
