George opened the first marble works business in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He purchased the business from his father, Thomas, moving the Port Huron Granite and Marble Works, to the Soo, naming his business the Soo Granite and Marble Works.

George crafted for the town of Little Current their War Memorial. The staute was unveiled in 1922 and sits on the site of the town's first lighthouse.

Former Mayor George Laundy Dies Today at Age of 89

Former Mayor of Sault Ste. Marie, George J. Laundy died at 2:00 a.m. today in his home at 300 East Portage Avenue.
He was 89. Born in Sarnia, ON Jan 17, 1864, he came to the Sault in 1898 where he became active in civic affairs. In 1930 he was elected to the City Commission for one four year term and then was elected to the position of Mayor of the city for two terms. Mr. Laundy was also a member of the State Highway Commission when Murray D. VanWaggoner was Governor of Michigan.
A vestryman of St. James Episcopal Church. Mr. Laundy was also a member of the Knights Templar, The Knights of Pythias and the Woodmen of the World.
Mrs. Laundy preceded him in death March 18, 1852. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 15, 1939. Survivig are one son Frank of the Sault and his family of three sons and one daughter, and one nephew in Port Huron. The body will rest in Vanderhook Funeral Home and members of the family request that flowers be omitted.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
