Served as Magistrate at Liberty Hill, trustee of the State Normal and industrial College at Orangeburg, appoined colonel on the staff of Gov. J.G. Evans, elected as a state legislature, a member of teh constituional convention of 1895, later elected by the Democrats to Adjutant and Inspector General serving two terms.
On his request he was buried in his uniform with the badge of honor he had won upon the battlefield.
