Son of Charles Powhatan Simpson and Virginia Arabella "Jennie" Smith Simpson;

Grandson of William David Simpson and Mary Jane Ragland Simpson and of Andrew J. Smith and Nancy Ann Brown Smith;

Brother of Charles Watson Simpson (who died at the age of 19), George William Simpson (Wife, Cora S. Cann), Connie Belle Simpson (Mrs. William Marion Seay), Nolly P. Simpson (Wife, Daisy Simpson), and Hally N. Simpson.

In 1896, Emmett married Minnie Mae Chewning; Emmett's cousin, James Lewis Smith, married one of Minnie's sisters, Pearl Chewning.

Emmett and Minnie had seven children together: Charles Hobson Simpson (Wife, Nannie Sue Rice Simpson), Maude Louise Simpson (Mrs. Tyree Glenn Newton), George Rawley Simpson (who, sadly, died at only 7 weeks of age), Evelyn Virginia Simpson (who, sadly, died at only 5 months of age from Croup and Colitis), Lawrence Watson Simpson (Wife, Evelyn Richeson Simpson), and Jessie Reuelma Simpson (Mrs. Henry Holcomb Harley Grubbs)....an infant was stillborn in 1907 and buried in the Simpson Family Plot at Presbyterian Cemetery.

Emmett spent his entire career working for the Norfolk and Western Railway, starting as a Fireman and working his way up to Engineer.

He registered for the Draft in 1918 for WWI, at the age of 40; then he again registered for the Draft, this time for WWII in 1942 when he was 64.

He is buried beside his wife, Minnie, and next to his son, Charles Hobson Simpson, in the Simpson Family Plot at Presbyterian Cemetery in Lynchburg.
