Maynard Gibson, 88, Kingsport, Tenn., passed away early Sunday morning (June 27, 2004) at Brookhaven Manor following a brief illness.


Born in Big Stone Gap, he had resided most of his life in Kingsport. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.


Mr. Gibson was a member of Cedar View Independent Methodist Church.


Preceding him in death were his wife of 41 years, Anna Lee Gibson; his parents, William and Elizabeth Gibson; and two brothers, Charles Gibson and Roy Gibson.


Surviving are three sons, Chris Gibson and wife, Kathy, Kingsport, Ronnie Gibson, Acworth, Ga., and Darrell Gibson, of Georgia; one step-daughter, Janice Quillen and husband Robert, Kingsport; four grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Addington, Somerset, Ky.; and two brothers, Cecil Gibson, Chester and Glen Gibson, Big Stone Gap.


Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.


Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Fields officiating.


Burial will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Va., with military graveside rites conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd, Post #3382 of the VFW.


Pallbearers will be family and friends.
