She was born April 16, 1928, in Butte to the late Frank and Mae (Metzel) Kelly. Raised in Alder, she graduated from Sheridan High School.

Gerry moved to San Francisco for a brief period of time working as a secretary. Homesick for Montana and the lifestyle, she returned to the Sheridan area.

She met and married Roy Smith in 1946 in Seattle. Together they had three sons and a daughter. They later divorced. In 1983, Gerry married Charlie Ball in Laurin. They lived on the Snowcrest Ranch south of Alder and the Bacon Ranch south of Sheridan when Charlie passed away in 1994. Gerry continued living in Sheridan until her death.

Gerry was a homemaker raising a family and a member of the Saint Mary's Catholic Church. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was very witty. She loved riding horses bareback. She offered a kind smile and was a friend to all she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and son Robert L. Smith in 1970.

Survivors include sons, Douglas C. Smith of Boise, Idaho, Richard J. Smith (Beverly) of Sheridan; daughter, Toni R. "Patches" Case of Dillon; brother and sister, Harold Kelly and Elaine "Aunt Tex" Staley both of Alder; granddaughter, Charlie Ann.
