Obituary

In Memory of Dorothy Drechsel Gunther Harman
01/20/1927 ~ 04/12/2012
Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend…Dorothy Drechsel Gunther Harman, 85, passed away peacefully April 12, 2012 in Sandy, Utah.

Born January 20th 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest child and only daughter of Edmund Richard and Ida Helen Gunther. Dorothy married Howard Louis Harman in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 27, 1946 after awaiting his return from a tour of duty in the United States Army during World War II. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage before his passing in August of 2002.

Mom loved yard work and gardening and the hours she and dad spent were evident to all who visited and enjoyed their home. Mom was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She and dad never missed an activity or event that their kids and grandchildren were involved in.

Mom and dad's best friends were her brothers and their wives, and they spent countless hours together seeing the world, going to dinner and just spending time together.
Dorothy was a friend to all and her kind and gentle ways will be greatly missed. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We love you mom and celebrate your release from this life. Your example of strength in dealing with your personal challenges in life will be a continual inspiration and legacy to each of us.

Preceded in death by her husband Howard, son-in-law Leon Nielsen, parents, brothers; Eric Gunther (Adeline), Werner Gunther (Mary), & John Gunther (Ann).

Survived by daughter Diane Harman Nielsen of Sandy, Utah, and son Scott Harman (Kim) of South Jordan, Utah. 7 grandchildren; Kris Pugh, Lori Lemn (Earl), Kevin Nielsen, Cassie Kartchner (Travis), Ryan Harman (Chelsea), Shannon Davis (Ben) & Hillary Salls (Mike). 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Our family wishes to thank those caregivers who have lovingly cared for mom these past 7 years, especially those at the Crosslands Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11:00 am at Mountain View Memorial Chapel, 3115 East 7800 South. A viewing was held from 6 to 8 pm Monday, April 16th, and one hour prior to services at 10 am at the mortuary. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
