Richard W. Mefford, 78, of Windsor, Missouri, died Wednesday morning, July 8, 2009, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Mo.
He was born October 1, 1930, in Windsor, Mo., the son of Edwin Hurley Mefford and Emma Josephine (Folsom) Mefford. On February 24, 1951, in Clinton, Mo., he married Annabell May Eckhoff, who survives of the home.
Mr. Mefford worked at the International Shoe Factory in Windsor for 37 years and then at Central Missouri State University, (now University of Central Missouri) for 8 years before his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Windsor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary Wayne Mefford, Lincoln, Mo.; 3 daughters, Carol Ann Phalen and Cathy Banning, both of Windsor, Mo.; and Marie Clevenger, Calhoun, Mo.; 8 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Herb Mefford, Lee Edwin Mefford and Hugh Robert Mefford, all of Windsor, Mo., and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Sidney Carl Mefford and Jerry Joe Mefford.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2009, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. Doug Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Windsor Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.
