Scott was the son of Susan Ellen Austin / Connor, nee Purington, and Alexander Austin. Scott's parents divorced when he was very young, and because of that, Scott grew up in New Hampshire with his mother and grandmother, Sadie Purington, nee Hoitt in Dover, N.H. Scotty was the youngest grandson of Richard B. Purington and Sadie, and the only natural son of Susan. At the time of Scott's death, he was father to his son little Scott, who as an infant was adopted by his grandmother and grandfather Susan and Charlie Conner.

Scotty attended Dover schools right through high school and loved the outdoors here in New Hampshire. He loved the mountains and especially the area in and around Conway and the Kangamagas Highway that stretch between Conway and Lincoln New Hampshire. One of his most favorite spots was the old covered bridge overlooking the Swift river, which is where his ashes were spread to follow to the ocean, which was another of Scotts favorite places to be. He was my youngest cousin, and because we lived close by, I saw him all the time. I was 17 when Scott was born, so I had the pleasure of watching him grow up. He was a member of the family that should never be forgotten.
