Deacon James Bancroft was born about 1804 was the son of Joseph and Susannah (Hubbard) Bancroft, originally of Groton ,then Lunenburg, lastly Townsend, MA. James married May 28, 1829, Sarah W. Kendall and resided in New Ipswich, NH, where he was a deacon of the Congregational Church. James and Sarah had six children named below. They moved to Rindge, NH in 1857 where Sarah died January 23, 1861. James married 2nd, December 6, 1865, Jemima Hale, the daughter of Emerson and Jemima (Foster) Hale. James died March 17, 1884, aged 80 years.
