DELBERT D. WALDORF, 75, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City, following several days at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

Born on April 1, 1937 in Rolla, Missouri, he was the son of Cecil and Florence (Sowers) Waldorf. The family moved to Winfield when he was 5. Delbert graduated from Winfield High School in 1955 and attended Arkansas City Junior College for one year. He joined the National Guard in April of 1954 and proudly served for 9 years.

He married Mary Hahn, and they had two daughters, Margaret (Maggie) and Monica. The couple later divorced. On October 1, 1966, he was united in marriage to Glenda P. (Humbert) Hibbard, and in 1968 he adopted her sons, Randall L. and Ricky R. as his own.

Delbert was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield for 45 years, where he served on numerous committees, and as President of Grace United Methodist Men. He was a member of the Sunday School Class. His hobbies includes trains, gardening, oil painting and woodworking.

Before his health began to fail, he was a member of the Board of Building Trades for the City of Winfield, and he, with his wife, Glenda, volunteered delivering meals for Friendship Meals. Delbert also helped distribute commodities.

Delbert was employed with Smith-Moon Steel Company at Strother Field from 1956 to 1961. He then went to Dudley-Williams Structural Engineering Firm in Wichita, and worked there for two years. Delbert retired from Gordon-Piatt Energy Group, Inc., at Strother Field, in January 2002, after 37 years employment.

His family includes: His wife of 45 years, Glenda; His sons: Randall (Randy) Waldorf and wife Kathy of Lenexa, KS; and Ricky (Rick) and wife Becky of Winfield, KS; His daughters: Margaret Oyler and husband Gary, and Monica Jiminez all of Wichita, KS; His 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way; His brother: A. Eugene Waldorf of Bartlesville, OK; His sisters: Christine Flottman and Donna Cook both of Winfield, KS; and Martha Wilson of Claremore, OK; and A host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 20, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in Delbert's name for Grace UMC-Methodist Men, Friendship Meals, Winfield Food Pantry or Rivercross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
