Merle J. Matison 53, a lifelong Story County resident was killed almost instantly at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday in a tractor accident on a farm he had been operating for about 6 miles southeast of Colo.

According to reports Matison received a broken neck & other severe head injuries when a small tractor he had been operating over turned in a ravine and pinned him beneath it.

Only witness to the accident was nephew Richard Webb, 11 of Ames; who was riding with Matison when it started to over turn. The youth leaped clear & escaped injury. The latter said he and his uncle were heading for a pasture to round up cattle when the accident occured.

The body was taken to Ryan Funeral home in Nevada were arrangements were indefinite today.

Mr. Matison was born south of Nevada on June 23, 1902, the son of Etta Fetterhoff Brown and Peter J. Matison. He was married Jan. 18, 1940 to Velma McBride in Nevada. He was a member of Colo Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, 3 brothers Henry Matison of Whittier, CA, Glen of Koonada, CA,and Clyde Matison of Valley Strum, Long Island, NY.: 2 sisters Anna White, Popejoy,IA.; Lola Ragsdale, Des Moines and a stepfather C. L. Brown
