John was born May 20, 1933, in Butte, where he was raised by his loving parents Jerry and Margaret Comba, who immigrated to the United States from Ireland.
He devoted his life to his family and to the families of others through his profession as an educator. He served as director of special education for the Idaho Department of Education under Gov. Cecil Andrus. After serving the state, John spent many years at the local school level, holding multiple leadership posts before he retired from the Kuna School District in 1995.
Most recently, John divided his time between Boise and Manhattan, where he doted on his grandchildren just as he had his three daughters. John was an incredibly devoted father who always put the needs of his family before everything else. He taught his girls how to snow ski, ice skate, swim, ride horses and bikes as well as to live life to the fullest, something John did every day. He did not wait for a special occasion to treat someone well; he spoiled his family and friends constantly.
John was just 71 years young, full of Irish wit and charm with a brilliant mind and personality to match. Throughout his life, John was kind and generous to all those he knew, and even those he didn't. He enjoyed helping others in need, donating his time, property and monies to philanthropic causes. John was quick to smile and made friends easily. In fact, he met one of his best friends in an airplane.
