Eldest Daughter Of Isaac H. Julian Dead
Mrs. John A. Thomas Passes Away In Texas.
Was Born In Centerville
-------------------------------------------------------
San Marcos, Tex., July 18 - Mrs. Nellie Thomas, wife of Professor John A. Thomas, superintendent of schools of Hunt county, Texas, died July 6, at their home in Greenville, in that county, after a long and painful illness. She was the eldest daughter of Isaac H. and Virginia M. Julian, who were residents of Richmond during nine years, from August 1864 to June 1873. Two of their four children were born in Centerville, Victor, now of Bellingham, Whatcom county, Washington, in 1860 and Nellie in 1863. Both began attending school at Richmond, where the two younger children were born, Claude Rene in 1866, (deceased in 1881) and Laura, (now Mrs. N. B. Cozby, of Long Beach, California) in 1869. Because of the failing health of Mrs. Julian, the family removed in the summer of 1873 to San Marcos, Texas. On her death the sisters were sent to an aunt at College Hill, Ohio, where they attended school. After an absence of nearly four years they returned and took charge of their father's home in San Marcos until their marriage. Here Nellie developed into a noble and lovable woman. In all the walks of life she proved herself capable and faithful. The world of the affections was her world, ever large-hearted and unselfish. As an illustration of the tenacity of her friendship, it may be mentioned that a school girl attachment formed in Richmond resulted in a correspondence which continued as long as she was able to write. Her bereaved relatives and friends, while profoundly sorrowing, are consoled by the faith that one so self-sacrificing has been welcomed into the heavenly kingdom. She leaves five promising children, the eldest, Julian B. Thomas, but sixteen years of age and just graduated from the Greenville high school. A most devoted and tender mother, only the faith of the Christian could have reconciled her to part with them at a time they most need a mother's care.
