Clifford was my grandmother (Elsie's) brother. He joined the Navy and was MIA as of 1945 in WWII. He was 21 years old. My grandmother only had 2 brothers and both older and she could never talk about Clifford without crying. I would like to think he's buried right there beside her. He was never found.

Clifford was my grandmother's brother. In those days the guys that wanted to sign up for the military went to a bus station and the bus would take them to sign up. Clifford did this here in Cedartown Georgia and the bus took him to New Jersey where he was inlisted into the U.S. Navy. Once he finished his training he was then stationed in Vero Beach Florida. He was born July 11, 1924 in Cedartown, Polk County, Georgia.

His full title from his military records shows: Clifford Hubert Stewart, Aviation Radioman 3c, 808 73 91, USN

He was reported to be MIA as of April 25, 1945 when the plane in which he was flying, a unit of Torpedo Squadron FORTY, was hit my enemy anti-aircraft fire and crashed into the sea off the island of Miyako Shima, Nansei Shoto, Japan.

The date of death was determined to be April 26, 1946 once he wasn't found for a year. Once the war was over they found many POW's and bodies of many American soldiers but sadly Clifford and many others were never found. Clifford had obtained his Air Medal along with 5 Gold Stars in his short few years in the USN.
