UNDER TRAIN. Charles Priestley Meets a Terrible Death. Charles Priestley, of this city, employed as car repairer by the Monon company, was run over and killed at Salem by a train yesterday afternoon. The body was brought last night to his home, 1818 Beeler street. Car Inspector John Bonifer, of this city, and Priestley went to Salem yesterday morning to make repairs on a string of cars that had been placed on a siding. Priestley had been working under and about the cars during the morning and about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon he stepped from behind the cars and was struck by an engine which was approaching on the main track. He was knocked down and his body was terribly mangled, death evidently being instantaneous. Mr. Priestley was forty-four years old and leaves a wife, one son, William Priestley, and two daughters, Mary and Emma Priestley. He is also survived by two brothers, John W. Priestley, of Goshen, Ind., and Albert Priestley, of this city, and one sister, Mr. Elizabeth Johnson, of Louisville. He was a member of Centenary M.E. church and was a well-known and respected citizen. He was also a member of the Knights of the Maccabee under whose auspices the funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence, the Rev. A. R. Beach officiating. - New Albany Evening Tribune 25 Feb 1909

[married Lillie H. Richardson 18 Mar 1886 New Albany, IN]
