Herman A. Sherman of Middletown, (Orange County, New York, a retired employee for PFW/Hercules in Middletown and a lifelong resident of the area, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at O.R.M.C., Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 89.
The son of the late Henry and Mary Befus Sherman, he was born March 29, 1921 in Little York, NY . He was the eighth of 13 children.
Herman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Middletown, a member and past Commander of the Town of Wallkill American Legion; he was a Charter Member of the International Chemical Workers Union Local 785, and a member of the S&B Hunting Club in Cooks Falls.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Truex Sherman, at home; his children: Randy (Sheryl) Sherman of Middletown, Leigh (Helen) Sherman of Glen Spey, and Patti (Dan) Tulp of Middletown; his ten grandchildren: Matthew, Heather, Heidi, Scott, Bryon, Christopher, Joshua, Nickolas, Danielle and Zackary; his 14 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Hannah, Noah, Noelle, Luke, Blake, Taylor, Audrey, Benjamin, Kayleigh, Madison, Austin, Logan, and Christopher Jr; his sisters, Dorothy Delillo and Lydia Wood; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Henry, Jacob, Conrad, John, George, Samuel, and Alex, and his sisters: Bertha, Pauline, Esther.
Visitation hours will be held on Saturday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc., 72 West Main St., Middletown. Burial will follow in Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburg.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Mt. Hope Rd. in Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church, 391 Mt. Hope Rd., Middletown, NY 10940 or St. Theresas Nursing Home, 120 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940.
