George, her son-in-law, asked her to move in with him and Ardith after they bought a house in Lynwood in 1945. She lived with them until about 1958 when she moved to Pasadena to live with her son Merle.
After Merle became so ill that he had to be permanently hospitalized, she moved in with her half-sister Mareta and her husband Ken Fisher in Huntington Park. She lived there until her death.
Hazel suffered most of her adult life with rheumatoid arthritis in her hands, knees and feet and eventually became almost totally bed ridden.
Until her hands got too crippled to use, she would cut her grand children's hair and sew summer outfits for her grand daughter Judy and her friend Nancy.
