Kate Bass, of Mitchell, has filed a petition in the Lawrence circuit court asking authority to adopt Dovie Phillips, better known as Dovie Tolliver. The petition states the child is ten years of age and that she was deserted years ago by the mother who has wholly failed to make any provisions for the daughter during that time. The petitioner agrees to assume custody of the waif and provide it with the necessities of life.

Mrs. Dovie Mae Alexander, 83, 602 College Ave., Mitchell, died Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. at Mitchell Manor. She was born in Haselton [Hazelton], Ind., on Jan. 6, 1893, the daughter of Denton and Katie Toliver Bass. She was united in marriage July 13, 1912, to Harley Alexander, who survives. She was a 65-year member of Mitchell First Baptist Church. Surviving besides her husband and one son, Robert Alexander, Bedford; four daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Helen) Henderson, Mrs. Ruth Arnold, and Miss Lucille Alexander, all of Mitchell, and Mrs. William (Dorothy) Nave, Lexington, Ky.; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Kirkman will officiate. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Casketbearers will be Allen (Joe) Henderson, Robert Nave, Jerry Arnold, Tony Arnold, Dale Robertson and Buddy Prather.
