James P. Boyd was a member of 17th Ordnance Company. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands, as a member of the Provisional Tank Group, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. On April 9, 1942, Bataan was surrendered to the Japanese. Boyd, with five other members of his company, escaped into the jungle during the death march. He spent the remainder of the war fighting as a guerrilla in the Philippines until February 1945 when he reported to U.S. Forces.
